89 to Riverdale @4400
89 to Riverdale is big water class III above 2000, right here in Ogden. The flats move fast, and have some big swirlies. The habit of laying on the back of your boat and looking at the sky, when in the flats, can only be done for a few seconds at these high flows; keep an eye out for getting pushed into the brush.
There are many channel choices; they have all looked clear so far. In one spot you feel like you are slaloming through standing trees, but there is plenty of room.
This is a good playboat run, with some decent waves. Below the 84 onramp bridge is a huge wave train; if there was more of rapids like that on this run, it would really be a classic.
Unita drop is somewhat washed out; still some fun waves. Stay right of the big hole on the left. This is easily scouted from the bridge, as always.
Top of slide one is a great surf wave.
The left side of slide two has the biggest hits on this run. Class fun!!!
Riverdale now has alot of wood on the right; don't go into the right eddy; it is very swirly, more dangerous with the wood.
If you continue to 24th, expect a couple mandatory roll bridges, pushy class IIIish meanders, and excitement @OPP.
If you continue all the way down to 1350W, scout the railroad bridge for wood (when driving from OPP to 1350W, on Exchange Rd > W Middleton Rd), and watch for a low pipe below there, tight limbo @3900.
