Always nice, Jackson in the summer.  This past week I took a bunch of boys to Jackson  to camp for a week.  We camped at Atherton Campground on slide lake on the edge of the Gros Ventere river wilderness.  It was a great campsite with water, pit toilets and a host, $12 per night.

Our plan was to do the Hoback section of the snake,  we came equated with 3 duckies and a 15'SB from the Uof U.  The section was a fun scenic big river experience with stopper holes and sweet surfing spots.  Big Kahuna and Lunch Counter pleased as they can almost flipping the duckies and raft.  We did see another...

Here is am email I posted to another packrafter. I thought perhaps some here might be interested in my trip report as well.

I was able to paddle the Barracks section of Parunuweap.  I hiked in from some narrows on the west side of Checkerboard Mesa.  It took a half day of hustling and navigating through the slickrock, cactis, and ponderosa down to the river take-out. I spent the night on a shelf overlooking the river.  The next day I down climbed the 200 feet to the river, leaving my camp set up on the shelf.  The climb was class 3 with a few 4 sections.

On my list of things to do yesterday, was checking out the new
whitewater gear store. Nice little joint. These guys are catering to
the rafting and SUP markets. They are just getting started and their
out look is good. I asked Anthony Monson, co-owner about kayaking gear,
and his honest answer was that he did not know kayaking well enough to
sell the products, and that he would leave the "kayaking" gear to
    Wasatch and others. Great answer!

    Anthony came across as
a genuinely nice guy, with a real caring for creating community. His...

Just did a westwater trip this weekend. Despite the extremely low flows (2,900 cfs) it was a fantastic trip. The rapids were still great and the weather was perfect. My only complaint is that the flat water was sooooo slow. We had a beautiful full moon on the river, which meant we needed to sleep in the shade Cool Skull was actually still pretty fun too if you took the far right line against the wall.

I did a write-up for Utah Outside about the trip

Got to packraft the Blackfoot yesterday. The flows posted on the USGS site are deceiving for the Wolverine Canyon run. It's flowing around 500 cfs which was plenty of water for that class V run. I had read about all of the poison ivy on the run. But didn't have any troubles with that stuff, not a single rash. All of the poison ivy that I saw was down in the class I stretches nearer the take out. I ended up portaging twice. The first was scrambling over a couple rocks near the bank around this huge whole. I was running my packraft without the deck and skirt retrofitted yet, so I wasn't sure...

Just ran it Sunday! a total hoot and still moderatly serious though i'm guessing not nearly as choked an pushy as normal flows. but duckblind is big and considerable with a 4+ (perhaps) S turn that has a curler trying to flip on the first turn of the "S".

Killer play wave within the first mile of the run that dwarfs the fun of Idaho connection (at least at this low level). Great retentive chunder pillow at the top. glassy bottom, not too steep so you don't perl in, but pretty committing. Like riverdale in flood, before it blew out except it's far less trashy. shame you have...

This trip was well worth it. I was able to see some good friend from the southeast race, run Staircase with some good friends from Utah, and jumped on the Lower V of the North Fork with an Idaho local Micah Kneidl. It was a great trip, and I can't wait to get back.

Got to packraft a real gem the other day, Upper Seely Creek above Joes Valley Reservoire, so I thought a few Joes might want to read about it for a future run. This is a freaking awesome creek! started off the day hiking up an improved dirt road overlooking the canyon for about 5 miles. This road continues up to Skyline drive and down to Ephraim. However, after about mile 5, I decided to descend down a jeep trail on the left down into the canyon for another two miles until it became a hiking trail for another mile, finally reaching the confluence of two cascades resulting in a 200 to 300 fpm packraft...

I was going to peddle up to Boise this week, unless someone is heading up there anyway, and can carry a recumbent trike and a packrafter. I wouldnt have to come back with them, as I was going to spend a month or two up there.

It takes about 3 hours and a half to get to the put in from salt lake, but it is worth the drive if you can get more than 4 laps and if the river is running higher than 1200 cfs. It is a pretty short section that is probably 1 mile long from the put in to the take out. The biggest rapid is right at the put in with two hole/waves at the right and left sides of the rapid. You could do an S move to avoid them, but it is more fun just to punch through them. After this rapid, you will not see flat water until the take out but it does calm down. I think the first rapid above 1200cfs is a class 4 and...

This is a video I have worked on, and off on. I have played around with different songs, and different edits, and never could bring it together like I wanted. I finally got an edit that I liked, and a song that matched the atmosphere of West Virginia, and the beautiful Gauley River.

It was a pleasure to hook up with Graham Taylor, and some guys that I had been boating the Green with. If you are wondering if it is worth the drive to paddle the Gauley wonder no more. The scenery, the food, the people, and the quality of the water is a must for most kayakers.

    Please watch in...

This video is of a nice little creek located in southern Idaho called Deep Creek. The water quality is questionable at best and it's not uncommon to step on cow manure while scouting the falls. But the whitewater quality is great. This creek is a class 4 creek that can feel like class 5- if you are not used to creeking. The levels also make a big difference. I think 2.3ft is good (maybe a little low) and 2.7ft is high. It runs early in the spring and late in the fall, usually for a couple of weeks only. It's fun. Send me a message if you are interested and would like more beta.

    Let's...
