2013 Black Canyon of the Bear Release Dates

This year the Bear will flow through Black Canyon on the following dates:
April 13 & 14
April 26~28 (Friday thru Sunday)
May 18 & 19
June 1 & 2
As in previous years, the river should be at least 900 cfs (more if available) from 10am till 4 pm.
Please spread the word, it is easier to keep the flows happening the better attended they are. I have gotten some negative comments from PacifiCorp and the agency people after the days when no one shows up...unfortunately zero attendance days have been fairly common than expected.

So I have heard boaters say that it is ridiculous that Black Canyon releases when everything else is flooding. Release way early or way late in the season would bring better attendance because people are searching for water.

Love the releases and I love they are scheduled in advance now It is my favorite run that is doable in a day from SLC. Thanks so much Charlie for helping have them and PacifiCorp of course. I usually can only make 1 or 2 a year but man those are great days. Looking forward to it this year.

Those dates work well for my schedule. I am up for the Saturdays if anyone wants. Being newer to paddling Utah, where is this run and what is it like?

The Black Canyon section of the bear is in Grace Idaho. Check out the run description on American Whitewater or you can look it up on Youtube. It's probably my favorite run thats somewhat close. Class 4 with one class 5 that can be portaged. The portage isnt very fun though. I think its actually easier to run it than walk arround.

IS anybody up for a trip next Saturday?
