Jordan Narrows Sunday Empty Jordan Narrows Sunday

Post by Flying_Spaghetti_Monster Fri 30 Dec 2011, 11:58 pm

Me, and Dan Merril are planning on running the Jordan Narrows on Sunday the 1'st of January. This is not the New Years Day paddle being planned else where. It is just two friends getting together on a river that has around 900 cfs based on my visual gauge. Any one that wants to join is free to. Not the best place for a super new kayaker, but most would be okay on it. We will be running laps on Tunnel. I am by no means hijacking the New Years day paddle, I just saw the river today on the way home, and want to get on it. Meet at the take out at 11:00

So how's this run looking these days? Major changes from previous year?

FSM's visual gauge was off from what he said. It was so low they could paddle under the footbridge where we normally put in and FSM broke his boat. Real low from what he said.

It was pretty low. Good news is it is clean of rebar, and other debris. If it comes up again it is a fun run. Also does anyone know the best gauge to go off of.

I say we (meaning YOU FSM, next time you drive by it on the way home from work) should put a stick gauge near the bridge at the takeout so we can eyeball it and not guess in the future.

I use the gage at 90th south on CBRFC. My camp is only a couple feet from the river; it looks like its running at 200 or 300 cfs now. I got a two person IK, so I was going to strap my bike up on the front and boat from Lehi to work one of these days.

Scott, if you could commute to work, by waterway and paddle, you would probably be the first person in this country, in a hundred years to do so, and would be my hero... and would warrant a certifiably interesting news story.

Off-season paddling assignment: Find someone that commutes to work, via river, at least once a week, in this country.(not including Scott)

Yeah that would be cool! Then maybe it would become the latest fad. What we need to do is find ourselves a celebraty to do it.

I've heard of people sea kayaking to work in the Puget Sound area.

Yeah Rob, I've heard of that too. Also on Rangeley Lake in Maine, I recall people commuting to town by boat, often with a small outboard motor, but sometimes with oars on an old-fashioned Rangeley boat.

There is a guy in Wash DC who paddles his canoe across the bay to and from work each day... pretty cool.

If you live in Saratoga Springs and work in Provo, it might be a good idea to sea kayak across Utah Lake; get a job at the Provo Marina
