Alpine Canyon this Weekend
Is there a UWC trip, or even some sort of unsanctioned soiree, scheduled for Alpine Canyon this weekend? Camping at the Greys, etc.? I have Friday off and I'm planning on going up.

Re: Alpine Canyon this Weekend
Leaving Friday (afternoon/evening?), coming back Sunday morning. Tim, we might be able to pull off a carpool. I even have a nice cozy garage you can keep your car in while away.
Also, I've never been, anyone got good directions?
and...What's the chances of getting another river in around the area in the same day, after the Snake, like say the Hoback? Or is this Alpine trip norm anyways?
thanks

Re: Alpine Canyon this Weekend
Well the Greys camping is right at the putin for the Greys (Snaggletooth) run; it (was) at a "Medium" flow (now it says Low; dropping fast). Its class IV. There is a III+ section up higher that I haven't done; has anyone done it at this level?
I would say to do two laps on Alpine Canyon if you have time. Its one of the best class III runs anywhere. You will love it!
Hoback is an option, but its much less exciting than Alpine Canyon. More like Hen-tag rapids, with a nice III- crux. You could do 3.5 miles below Granite Creek, then take out (that is what we did Monday, instead of doing all 11.5 miles). There is supposedly a riverwide log in the lower third of the Hoback somewhere.
The lower Gros Ventre seems to be at a decent level, but its an hour and a half from Alpine. I'd be up for this, if anyone else has time.
Here is a google map from Riverdale to Alpine, with two little short cuts (get off of I-15 before McCammon; and when 34 ends, turn left, not right):
http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Riverdale,+UT&daddr=43.01952,-111.04411+to:Alpine,+WY&hl=en&ll=43.024353,-111.069717&spn=0.068019,0.169086&sll=43.002764,-111.064396&sspn=0.068042,0.169086&geocode=FTlPdAIdCfVS-SkxCegHfwVThzGWUSN5kU8p2w%3BFQBtkAId8plh-SnJvpVl0wFWhzHh2ng55ue0Vg%3BFReWkgIdzgBi-SnzEmtaFVBTUzHBRNm7Q39ekw&mra=dpe&mrsp=1&sz=13&via=1&vpsrc=6&z=13
I might leave Friday am, and go via Logan canyon again.

Re: Alpine Canyon this Weekend
The Gros Ventre is mighty low. The section with rapids is only 1 mile long. That's a long drive for a short marginal run. The Teton is still at a very nice flow, great 4+. Hope I can figure out a way to switch my work schedule so I can get up there.

I'm bringing the Topo Duo. Any takers for Saturday's run on the Snake? Front or rear seat, doesn't matter.
Also I'm leaving Friday around 10 AM, from Summit Park. I have room for a rider and gear. Returning Sunday after the Greys run.

RE: Alpine Canyon this weekend
Thursday. Late arrivals. I need to find a ride up to Alpine for one passenger early Saturday morning (no boat, equipment or baggage) just need to get up there by 11:00 or noon to catch the group at the put-in. Share on gas. Let me know today.
I have room for additional kayak or two and paddle but probably not extra gear.
Need to connect today. Leaving early AM Friday
Please call

For those heading over Parleys on Friday night or Saturday morning watch out for the road closures as they replace the westbound bridge at Summit Park: http://www.udot.utah.gov/renovate-I-80/bridge-replacement/

Right on, thanks Craig ... Didn't think I could pull it off, but I worked a few 12's to finish my project at work, and now realize, I'm too late to find a ride/rider, so... I guess that's what happens when you bail on your friends. Have some fun for me, aye?
