Ogden Narrows Race this year? Empty Ogden Narrows Race this year?

Post by brianteats Mon 15 Aug 2011, 2:05 pm

Maybe a little early for this, but planning for the water release requires plenty of advanced planning, no?

Sooooo I've heard very little about this year's event being kicked around. This may fall through the cracks if there's not enough interest or planning. Anyone know if this is in the works? Maybe some words of wisdom from folks who've organized this before?

Rumor is, there's going to be a P.R. release in early October for the rejuvanation project we could time the event with that. But I believe years past it's been timed with the XTerra race-where this year would be Sep 24. Personally, I think it'd be nice to, at least, avoid a 'same-time' conflict to give spectators a chance to see everything going on; or maybe even move the PR release up?

Apologies if this is already in the works, and I'm out of the loop; you can just tell me to shut up and be patient. Laughing

I am not logisticing this year. Not sure who is. Nate P. has always been the one to procure the release. Last year, I and Andy Thunell put the race together but as far as I know neither of us has been approached regarding doing it again. Hows that for a lot of non-information. No release=no race. If you want a race, I would highly suggest someone looking into it. Pretty sure Ken, Weber, Nathan, Andy, and I've done our time on this front.

Although I will still be stuck in the South East around this time it would suck for this not to go down. I have heard if you we miss one release for a year it is pretty much over. I am not sure how much truth is in that, but I know there are plenty of people that would like to race. With the number of people that got on the narrows at higher water they should be styling it at "Normal" flows. I just wish they did a 650 to 700 race. That would be epic.

If anyone is interested in putting it on this year, I have all the logistical/permits/insurance stuff from last year and I can point you in the direction you need to go.

Ogden Narrows Race this year? Empty Inquiry Made

Post by npackham Tue 16 Aug 2011, 10:45 am

I haven't heard any rumors, but when I saw this thread I sent an e-mail inquiry to John Patterson at the Mayor's office who arranged the release for last year. I'll let you all know if I hear back.

It would be nice to do one of these one year as a fund raiser. Where all the proceeds go to some sort of cause that the city can benefit from. Could even have venders come in, this would create revenue for the city while promoting this wonderful sport. Any thoughts on that. Forgive me if that is what is going on already.
