Checking the UWC calendar?
You’ll find the trip to central Utah and the Sevier River coming up this
weekend, July 9th and 10th. Last year we discovered the fun and somewhat
unique Marysvale run along US-89 past the Big Rock Candy Mountain and
determined to do the trip again. Of
course it’s the people who make a trip and make it memorable and we hope to do
it again. Roy Clark, in a Las Vegas
concert said…”That was fun, let’s do it again….but you can’t do it again. You can do something similar.”
So our attempt is to try to re-create a fun time. Rumors and water levels have raised questions
(does that sound familiar this year?)
The Marysvale run is a pretty and fun little run that progresses to a
quick moving stretch that challenged us novices. The plan is to make a run each on Saturday
and Sunday. Most of us plan to camp in
the Castlerock Campground at the Western tip of Fremont Indian State Park northeast on the south side of I-70. We found it pretty and comfortable with
shade and a small stream, and near the park for you history buffs.
Last year some found space along the river, seemingly free
camping but no amenities. There is a
good restaurant, “Hoovers”, on 89 south of Big Rock Candy Mountain. We will meet in the parking lot right across
the street between 11 and 12 on Saturday for those who don’t hook up at the
campground. Be sure to bring your ACA
number or be prepared to fill out the ACA waver ($5.00).

Anyone else running this part of the Sevier this time of year? Would love to make a trip up and give it a go with a few others.

Re: UWC Sevier River
It is a blast. Keep an eye on flows this time of year. It has been holding pretty steady around 500 which is a fun level. If I werent heading up to the Snake this weekend I would have loved to hit up the sevier.

Anyone want to do an Eddyflower run description for that stretch? I guess thats irrigation flows that are stepping up right now?

Re: UWC Sevier River
Thanks for the flow gauge. Since that is one of the closer runnable rivers to me, as I get better at this I will try to provide as much beta as i can. I may head over Sunday and do a little scouting.
There is a rafting outfitter in Big Rock Candy Mtn that I may be able to get some info on as well. I just need to find a skirt that will fit my XP 10 before the weekend.

Re: UWC Sevier River
I originally wrote an eddyflower entry for this run but accidently deleted it when trying to edit it.
I just wrote another one and I will see if I can get the trip reports and stuff from the old one put back to this RunID as they still exist in the system.
Here is the run:

Re: UWC Sevier River
Nice, ,thanks Joe! Fwiw, although eddyflower has much better stabbility these days, I would suggest that anyone who has writtten run descriptions keep a backup of their own. I have not been impressed with the backups of a number of websites recently. My old facebook photo albums have no photos, even google docs temporarily lost 30Gb of docs i backed up there, in a paid acct.
