Monstar VS Large Molan

Monstar VS Large Molan Empty Monstar VS Large Molan

Post by Guest Thu 14 Apr 2011, 9:03 am

Cracked my Monstar yesterday. Utah is going off right now and I am
really unwilling to give up a couple of weeks waiting for processing a
warranty and shipping. I really love the Monstar, but I am losing
patience with the Jackson plastic and thinking of trying someone else.

Spec wise, the molan comes in 2" narrower. Has anyone tried both(or
molan vs star etc). One way or the other I will probably wind up
dropping yet another 1200 bucks before the day is over.

Please refrain from the I hate Jackson or Pirranah comments. Jackson
has ALWAYS taken very good care of me. Just tired of my boats breaking.
Always an unlinked crosslink crack issue. I am also not interested in
the Jackson Linear plastic, as the corresponding outfitting is less
than appealing

Hey man I paddled a Large Molan when they first came out. It was a very tight fit, but then again I am around 6'3", and have a size 14 foot. As far as not going with a Super Linear plastic, I know alot of people that get those because the plastic is better. As far as outfitting on them it will be no different than the outfitting in the Molan. I would get another Monstar, because I don't think you would fit in a L Molan. I would request a Super Linear hull if your old outfitting would fit in it.

I demo'd the medium Molan vs. the Star back to back at the Black River Fest in NY last summer. I found I liked the Molan a lot better - they were fairly similar in speed on the wave and ease of throwing ends in, but I found that the Molan was much more controllable for me, especially in a back surf (with the Star I had a tendency to catch an upstream edge in a back surf). I'm not an expert playboater, so I can't really comment on the arial abilities of either boat, but for spinning and throwing edges I was really impressed with the Molan.

Bit the bullet on another Monstar. Just really like the way it paddles and I know I fit right.

Thanks for the input. FSM's size issue, plus some brought up on the buzz definitely played into the equation.
