Bear Flows this weekend (4/16 & 17)
PacifiCorp website http://www.pacificorp.com/es/hydro/hl/wr/br/bgd.html is currently forecasting 900cfs flows for this Saturday and Sunday (4/16 & 17). They will make the final call on Thursday, but currently appears very likely.
Last weekend there were zero paddlers on Saturday and 7 hardy souls from Logan on Sunday. Hard to make a case for flows if we don't show up...please consider a trip this weekend!
Thanks...Charlie

Thanks for the info, Charlie. I wanted to go up last Saturday, but couldn't find enough people to go up with me (which is understandable since the weather was pretty miserable). With that said, does anyone want to run the Bear this Saturday?

I'd be down to go Chris, depending on the weather....

Hit the bear on the first release and swore I would never run it that cold again. Now that was a show of solidarity. Hard to peel away from the front when it is running at record-ish flows. If the weather doesn't go to shit, down for a weekend trip to the Bear. Hopefully accented by Lava being full of Bikini types. Third Saturday release in a row for you local religious types.

more paddlers than 7 last sunday
For Sunday, there were 5 other boaters on the Bear, all from Pocatello. It was hard to believe there was not more people there.

Re: Bear Flows this weekend (4/16 & 17)
FYI, there was a question on Eddy Flower about what time the Bear releases occur.
Releases are strutured so that the flow is at least 700 cfs by 10am and they start ramping down so that the flow is above 700cfs until at least 4pm. Operationally means they start ramping up sometime around 9ish and start lowering the flow a little before 4 pm. It takes the flow "wave" close to two hours to move downstream from the Grace dam to the take out. Hence you can launch fairly close to 4pm and as long as you don't mess around or screw up you can ride the wave to the takeout.
