I know its not boating season yet, but has anybody been down the north fork of the virgin river? Sounds like it would be an amazing experience if you dont mind the 8 mile hike to the put in.

http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/6819/

I would be interested on doing it next spring and I am interested on any beta other boaters may have.

Peace,
Christian

other than the middle fork of the salmon self-support trip, this is my most amazing experience ever on a river. way, way hit and miss w/ flows though. too high you can't get a permit, too low and you'd be canyoneering. did it in the 500 cfs range and it was stellar.

Coincidentally, I was just noticing that NF Virgin was up to 200 with the rain; the Zion stretch rates a "low" right now... would be cool if it got up to 300.
Gauges bumped from Logan (Woodcamp and Logan Town rate a low right now), Weber@gateway, Syar (6th water); not boatable but still bumped: Unitas Bear, Ferron; heavy rain across N Utah last night!

AF went to 65! Could boat that if it was cleaned..

Thing about it is you've got to get "mentally prepared" for 6 hours of 14 cfs scraping to get into the canyon. Then there is the mysterious 15 footer and then you get to good flow. Rapids are easy but logjams are ever-changing and sometimes in blind areas. I recommend camping in the canyon and paddling day 2 all the way through the roadside class IV run. You're in such an amazing place, you might as well camp a night.

If you want to continue to be able to do this run YOU NEED TO WRITE THE NPS. They are making the plan right now as whether to allow kayaking or not. Craig posted the link in another thread. Maybe someone can post it here.
