Snake River Daily guides
Does anyone else think they are a bunch of river whores who are a bit to self entitled? Shit dude, you run the same stretch ALL summer...whoopie! You do not own the river, and i DID NOT sign your waiver. Go back to J-Hole and wallow in your inflated housing....
Jackson= a great place to visit but a better place to leave.
ON a side note the Big Kahuna was rocking a cool hole on the left this week.
DOWN WITH GUIDED PARTIES! LONG LIVE THE PRIVATE FLOAT!
(its not as extreme as you pitched it to your clients..ya jong!)

The guides have always seemed friendly enough to me. I've seen a lot more steamrolling at Burrito by private groups.

"seemed" is the key word here....just don't break "their" rules.

seems like a blanket, all encompassing statement, rather than a rant against one or two particular arseholes... i'm w/ vertdur(i can't even pronounce your name, and i'm 49...), in that i've mostly encountered very friendly smiles and good, good karma. personally, i stand and bear my humble testimony that camping up grey's and running snaggletooth is very, very true!!!

Seriously?
I guided this stretch of river this past summer and would have to disagree. During high water (20,000 cfs+) I saw a lot of private boaters get in over there heads and have to rely on commercial boats to rescue their passengers which we were happy to do. Most guides are happy to allow private boaters to follow them down to make sure they avoid hazards in the river.
I also witnessed many intoxicated rafts go by full of folks looking to agitate the tourists on my boats. Not everyone is interested in a water fight, and no one wants to see where the sun don't shine. Commercial trips are also on a time schedule, so river etiquette is important. Don't be angry that we're paddling past you, it's nothing personal. Lastly, stay on the private ramp and be grateful that the commercial companies are funding such great facilities both for you and for us.
I do plenty of private boating so I feel comfortable saying this. A little courtesy and communication on the river can go a long way in keeping both private and commercial boaters happy.

Re: Snake River Daily guides
Not sure I really even understand the angst. I will say I am a bit biased. I have a few friends that guide this regularly and ARE gnar boaters that fund their paddling outside of the Snake by taking tourists down,"mushi mushi kayak mushi"etc. I will say , on my last endeavour, the takeout rangers were complete ass holes. Not sure if you were run down at kahuna by a raft(this is a known hazard) or if you are bummed you can't bum beers off the commercials, but most of the guides I have met and know are living in tents or trailers and are just trying to make their way. Most make every effort to not mess with the kayakers as they are part of that demographic. Sorry you had a rough run, but the last guide I bullshitted with handed me a white russian as he couldn't drink it on duty.
