Multiple Choice
I was wondering who has priority at the Ogden KAYAK park? Maybe you guys could help me decide......
1. 3 kids who tied a rope to the bridge and were surfing the first drop.
2. 2 fisherman drowning worms in the RL eddy after the first drop.
3. 1 solitary squirt boater looking for a place to play.
Your advice would be appreciated.

The squirt boater of coarse. You guys always have the right of way on the river The kids, and the fisherman can take a hike. It is the Ogden Kayak Park not the hillbilly swimming hole, Hobo's bath tub or Farmer Johns fishing hole

Re: Multiple Choice
I had several hours to myself so I now consider myself lucky.
I was just leaving when you got there, in part to the guys showing up to fish, not liking the feel of my new boat, but mostly my throbbing ankle I rolled over taking my boat down when I first got there.
1. If and only if the rope is tied around there necks
2.I'm not an avid angler but I'm sure there are better places to fish especially if someone is there. Did they even catch anything?
3.I do recall reading KAYAK PARK on the sign. They may not be able to read???

Re: Multiple Choice
not to be the guy who disagrees or anything but the river is for everyone to use and share. I agree it is a kayak park but we are a tad out numbered. Im fairly sure the city didnt have in mind that only 2 people are going to use the park a day. They built that huge deck for everyone to use. Though i agree its not really convenient for us, I'd show some patience. These same people can help us/ and support us in building more ww parks.

Re: Multiple Choice
There was no conflict or disagreement. I agree that the river is for everyone.
On the other hand I really didn't try too hard to stay on the other side of the river from the fisherman. The surfers were setting up when I walked back from the third drop. I had spent some time down there removing a log from the third drop. Not THE log that is really in the way but one closer to shore. If I would have stayed there may have been a conflict with the surfers but I left. I am peaceful.
By the way, the plaque on the deck says "kayak observation deck"

Re: Multiple Choice
Yeah, it's always an akward situation sharing OPP with non-boaters.
I think I'll be there tomorrow around 5; perhaps if we show up in numbers (more than 2 or 3) our mere presence would remind people of why the 'kayak park' was built in the first place and they may at least show some gratidute.
...
You know, I keep trying to retype this post over and over again to put a positive spin on the situation but the cold hard truth is- its OPP. Just have to take it with a grain of salt...and lock your doors.

And don't leave anything valuable visible in your car (valuable at a pawn shop that is).brianteats wrote:

ie: Wallet, camera, laptop, etc.
Funny how the riff raff come out with the lower water levels. Every time I was there at high water, even sunny warm days, no riff raff. Protective power of the flood levels?

Re: Multiple Choice
Today's update: I had the place to myself for 1 1/2 hours and then decided to quit. As I was leaving some guy drove up and unloaded a shitshow of a Huck Finn homemade raft. It was roughly the size of a ping pong table. Last I saw he had placed it in the lake on RL side of the island and about 5 kids were playing on it. I am sure it will become river trash soon. Kinda like me.
On the positive side I had a river tube appear in the first eddy while I was playing. I salvaged it but after an hour no one had showed up to claim it. It is now my river booty unless someone can identify it.

Re: Multiple Choice
This evening, I too, surprisingly only had to share the park with a couple kids swimming, and they gave me all the room I could want. I tried to get that log, hanging over the third drop, out but it's a big one; need to bring the hand saw next time.
Also, is it just me, or is the overall level of the river below the third drop lower? Maybe the channel's been cut down a bit resulting in the larger-drop feel of it? looks like it to me
