Logan (edit: Wed 7/13) Empty Logan (edit: Wed 7/13)

Post by wasatchbill Mon 11 Jul 2011, 6:05 pm

leaving Riverdale @3:30, mouth of Logan canyon @4:30. I have room for one or two. Will probably do the upper Logan and Woodcamp thru St Annes anyway, that gets the quality rapids, and takeout before the low bridges. IV(IV+ at Monolith, road scoutable; edit: todays report is some wood on the Monolith rock, blocking the left channel; same as last year).
text or call if interested- times are subject to change..
Cheers-

The Logan is quality, comparable to Bridalveil is scenery, difficulty, awesome flow levels (they are both around 1200), big wave trains, length (longer runs can be done on the Logan). Putting in at the bridge below the Monolith (~11 miles up from the mouth of the canyon), and running past Woodcamp to Preston Valley Campground, is a great section to do. A bit easier than a Monolith start, but still with a IV- and two IV rapids.

Tomorrow, would like to put in at the eddy to start the Monolith rapid; immediately below the wood. ~6PM putin; come on out!

BTW, taking out at Preston Valley avoids two out of the 3 mandatory roll bridges that are before Card. Could scout an eddy above that one remaining low bridge, too.
Here is the St Annes rapid on the Woodcamp section:
