Does anyone have info on rivers in the panhandle of Alaska? I've gotten a job offer for sea kayaking & climbing guide. Sea yaking the Misty Fjords is going to be a beautiful experience but its not going to give me the fix my WW yak does... If there isn't any white rivers I'm not sure I'd want to head up that way. Ill be based in Ketchikan, Alaska. I know they have awesome standing tidal waves for surfing but play boating just isn't my thing. The mighty Stikine is 60 miles away but I wont be running that until I get a helmet cam...

Dude!
Make sure you are running the NF Payette at beefy flows before even considering the Stikine! You are on right path though, as you are a freak of nature in the balance department. You will be my hero if you do it.

Yeah. Pretty slim pickens up there. I grew up in Petersburg. There are a few small rivers, but no guides and most likely a lot of wood. Usually the smaller rivers don't even run in the spring. They just ramp up during crazy torrential downpours, infrequently.

I've traveled around Southeast quite a bit on commercial fishing boats and have seen a number of possible rivers, but they're really remote and difficult to access.

So, my two cents would be to plan on doing lots of seayaking. Probably not much river running. Sounds like a freakin' cool job, though!
