Green River Daily
Who can tell me what about the Green River Daily?
Is it comparible to Hen/Tag?
Is a real white-water kayak needed to do it or will a recreational kayak be OK?
Reason I ask is that we are taking our scout troop down next week. We will be renting some duckies and a raft from the U, but I was wondering if my hard boats will be OK for it. I know my SOT will be fine, cause it can't fill up if tipped, but what about my sons Otter?, My Necky Manatou and my Loon?
I've paddled every one of these on Hen/tag with no problems at all, but was told by a guy who may or may not know that the daily is class 2 and 3 one right after another. From google maps it looks mopre like class 1 with a single 2 intersparsed with flat water.
So, I'm asking people who actually know what class 2 and 3 are, what is the Green River daily like?

Re: Green River Daily
We just did Deso canyon a couple weeks ago, and the ranger estimated the flow to be 800-1000 CFS. The only rapid in the entire 86 mile section that I would call class 3 is Joe Hutch / Cowswim. Everything else is just splashy wavetrains at best, and rocky riffles at worst. I'm sure it gets a lot better at higher flows (and maybe with all of the rain we've been having, that is happening). From Nefertiti to Swaseys was pretty flat and really, really slow. A couple of splashes, and when we did it the Price river was coming in really dirty, so the kids were for the first time telling me to not get them splashed.
I have only done Hen/Tag a couple of times (500-700 cfs range), and I find it is much more difficult than the Green Daily. But it only takes one rock to make everything bad, so always be cautious, but have fun.

Re: Green River Daily
Up to 2,500 cfs this morning with continued rain in the forcast.
Guage above 6'.
Looks like we picked a good week to go.
I might take a drive over to look at the Black Box area that was mentioned in another post, just to have a look see. Hows the road in wet weather? Anyone know?

Had some great runs. River was up, camping on beach was lonely, watermelons were fresh.
Didn't use kayaks.
