Re: White Salmon
Sweet - thats by far the best video I've seen of the Oreletta section, above BZ; one of the IV sections on my hit list.
Husum gauge is 2.75 feet and rising - road trip??
Look at EF Lewis! 3,460!?! That should be high by anyone's definition... maybe even oregonkayaking.net :-)

Solid 11 to 13 to hood, depending on who is driving and conditions. Everything out there is within 2 to three hours from there. My 2 bits, if shit is going big, you oughta stay home. Our first trip we wound up boating a lot of class III stuff in record time because of huge CFS. The work for worth equation gets a little slim. Also, think about renting a room or having access to a dryer. Nothing drys out overnite in the PNW(including you). The ASK has been lucky in the fact that we have ex/new patriots that have taken residence in the area.
Hit up PDX kayaker. This is the single greatest resource for the Portland area. If you walk into one of the pdx based shops the commentary goes"I am off at four, do you wanna go run this?" Cool fucking town.I don't pretend to understand how you are wired, but when I roadie I generally like to run something different everyday. Make sure you have options.
Lastly, gotta remember most of their ratings are based on consequence. More than once, the "boogie" water on a run is equivalent to UT class IV destination boating.
It is awesome up there!
Cheers and Good luck

Re: White Salmon
Thanks for the polite response, and helpful advice. Yeah I have talked to some people that have been up there, and they say that Oregon is no joke. Class V MEANS Class V, and sometimes Class IV means Class V. It would be nice to hit it at the perfect time of year where you could start out on some III's just to make sure that you are getting the feel of the water, and then move up from there.C-dub wrote:Solid 11 to 13 to hood, depending on who is driving and conditions. Yup, same page. You had me wondering if there was pictures of two different rocks.
I concur with Professor Already Grey.

Re: White Salmon
I've thought for awhile FSM deserves the "Most Improved Paddler of the Season" award.
Too bad MWS/Hood River area is such a drive.
Maybe a Malad/Sewer session sometime soon?

It won't be long now, we'll be watching DVDs of his professionally sponsered exploits, and I'll be able to say, "See that guy? I helped him learn his roll below OPP."
Seems like only yesterday.
On a more related note: Being a Pac-nor-west resident looks more appetizing every year. At least I get to spend this new year's at the Reno WW park this year. Score!

Re: White Salmon
Yeah Brain you did help me with my roll. And just think how many swims I would have had if it was not for you wading waist deep in the bottom hole, and helping me back up.

Re: White Salmon
You had the biggest of big high braces at the wave pool last year. All choked up on the paddle. Basically the left blade in the right arm pit. Then I was like, dood, your gonna pop your shoulder out! You gave me a weird look and I explained why.
Well, I hope you still don't do that. Seems like from your videos you don't.

EFL Waterfall run; classic upsidedown off of Sunset falls at 1:00:

http://vimeo.com/10741029
Heres the line you don't want on Sunset, at :30; stuck in the middle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEKrccPhW44
Good raft hole ride (in Dragons back?) at 2:40
http://vimeo.com/4247620
A bit of the inner gorge; need some better HD of this run tho.
http://vimeo.com/16506381
1000= cranking? Looks like EF, AW, and Dreamflows copied each other, and got it too low.
http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/2147/#tab-flow
http://www.dreamflows.com/triggerLevels.php#Washington_Rivers
But the hardcore locals say that 2,500 cfs is medium :-).
http://oregonkayaking.net/rivers/eflewis/eflewis.html
So there you have it, its now at "Medium" flows ;-).
