HenTag Question Empty HenTag Question

Post by Wil Tue 03 Jul 2012, 5:28 pm

I did a smaller version of HenTag a month ago or so when it was at 550 with my big ass 18' cat, and with only one passenger, I didn't have any problems in the rock gardens. Looks like the flow is a bit higher, but I did a shortened run because of lack of time and put on at exit 112 and got out at 108. I talked to a raft guide at the put-in and he said that you can start higher and go lower. We were planning on going to exit 105, but will I run into any problems with the fat cat? I would consider myself a class IV kayaker and catboater, so I somewhat know what I am doing, but I'll have some kids with me this time, so I want to be extra safe. So is 112 to 105 better or would putting on somewhere above 112 and getting out at exit 108 better?

Thanks - Wil

Wil

112 to 108 is the standard run I always do. Coming from Ogden, its the first Hennefer exit, to Taggart. That is what the club does on Tuesdays. I don't think you'll add much for rapids above or below; do you want to add length on flatwater? The old Eddyflower run description said 5.5 miles of class I, with 2 class II drops; from Taggart down to Morgan (haven't done it); although there is a 5 foot drop at the end of that run (have done that).

Bill, was just hoping to get some more miles in, even if it is flat. As long as the water and the barley pops are cold. Kind of a pain in the ass to get everything rigged and ready and that portage is a true biatch with the big cat. So would like to get in some more miles if possible, as this time I don't have to do a bike shuttle as we have two cars.
