Skate helmet?
I was wondering with all the different helmets I seem to end up with that are sport specific, can a good skate helmet from Protec do the job for mild white water? I really don't want another helmet kicking around.

Yes, a Protec skate helmet would be OK. A newer one will probably be better protection than a lot of the older kayak-specific helmets. Try it out and see what you think. Make sure it fits and won't flip up and expose your forehead. I tried one when I was starting and thought it held a lot of water and drained down into my eyes. Then I got a kayaking helmet.

I started with a skate helmet and after a couple runs the foam separated from the shell... had to buy a new helmet anyway.

Re: Skate helmet?
Just my opinion but if you want to limit helmets I'd ditch the skate helmet and get a WRSI helmet like this one here, and then use it for skating.
I've taken some serious hits to the head in this sport and I'd rather have that on my noggin than anything else.
P.S. - Johnnie!!!

Re: Skate helmet?
I have a ski helmet, rock climbing helmet, bike helmet, and kayak
helmet, and the kayak helmet takes more shots than the other 3 put
together. I often climb or bike without a helmet, but I never paddle
without a helmet.
The new WRSI fullface looks sweet.

Re: Skate helmet?
Some good points here, I never thought that kayaking would need a better helmet than the other sports I do but the frequency of the impacts would defiantly become an issue. I guess i will start shopping for a more appropriate lid.
Thanks guys.
