Ogden wood
OK, splitting the Ogden river off from the Weber/Ogden thread.
The Narrows is looking good. Still, I was surprised how much wood moved with a flow of only 120-130. Guessing wood was flushed down the dam. There is a new riverwide wood collection in the diversion pond below the Narrows. Watch out for a log in Rainbow Gardens, river left below the dino park.
Way down at Wall Ave, I saw today that the mid-river bridge piling has a large new collection of brush, logs, and a mattress. We got that mostly clear last fall before the Ogden City grand opening of the river restoration area. If you run down there (for example if you are running down to the Crystal wave from Rainbow Gardens or wherever), the Wall Ave bridge piling is going to be a recurring problem spot, worth a quick scout if you are taking beginners down.
Its too bad the gravel bar has formed in the middle of the riverbed. If the gravel bar was around the bridge pillar, then there would not be a mid-river pillar collecting wood. But I don't see a way to change that without some backhoe work (or a lot of hand work).
If anyone floats on downstream below Crystal wave (destined for below the Weber confluence, like a takeout above 1200W), watch out for the railroad bridge pilings a couple hundred yards downstream of the Crystal wave (by Walmart). In addition to a wood jam, there are spikes sticking out of the pilings, where some structural boards are missing.
