Riverwide wood below OPP

Riverwide wood below OPP Empty Riverwide wood below OPP

There is a large collection of riverwide trees a half mile below OPP (edit: for lack of a better name, I'm calling this "22nd street logjam"), and above the railroad bridge near 21st street. It looks like two large cottonwoods fell in from river left, and other wood has collected on them. Portaging right into another gravelbar channel worked ok, although I did not see a great eddy. This wood will be permanent, unless there is a large work effort on it (it appears to have resisted the floodwaters we had this year. In fact, we paddled that stretch; those trees must have fallen after 5/25/2011).

edit: Below OPP still has a mandatory portage at the railroad trestle bridge.
There is good parking on "Outer 21st street", as an alternate putin/takeout.

This "22nd street logjam" was cleared (lets say 95% cleared anyway), evidently by the county! Wow! They must have used a crane.
(these photos are too dark, late evening, but they may give you some idea of what a huge logjam this was)

The log in the foreground is still there.

The railroad trestle bridge above 21st street is not passable right now. Hopefully this is on their to-do list.
Portage right.
